Lab Hours
I worked 3 hours reading student and Dr. C's blogs, going through smugmug gallery and reading Cotton's notebook, and accession file. I will be working on finding information on Dr. Hudson (who, when, where, how he was related to Native CA). I will try to have info. by class on Wednesday. I also chose to work on Team 1 (first choice) or Team 2 (second choice), whichever is most needed, I am flexible. I looked through the pictures of my baskets and suggest the following thumbnails for the promotional flyers/postcards: photo #1 damaged burden basket, photo #5 rim of damaged burden basket with attatched weaving, or photo #17 close up of burden basket design. Whatever will work for Michelle. I also want to suggest one of the burden baskets I will be working on as the one to follow through the maker to museum process. It is a McCloud Area Burden Basket that has obvious wear and tear and numerous places that have been repaired, I assume, by the maker. It was probably heavily used and utilitarian in purpose in comparison to the other burden basket I have that is in pristine condition and possibly made for the consumer market. In the little information I have read on it, it was purchased for little and shows little appreciation. The tags and information say it is "damaged" because of its condition but couldn't this "damaged" basket represent so much more and have a story to tell? I really enjoyed looking at all of the photos and reading about everyone's objects. There are so many beautiful things. I look forward to hearing what everyone has to say and discussion on Wednesday.
